CARELESS TWITTER COSTS LIVES

Photobucket

Wearing vintage Bogner silk shirt, my Mum's; Zara skater skirt, River Island sandals, Prada fringed bag

On Brick Lane, London, eerily quiet on a summer weekday. Went with a heart full of hope and a clean notebook to see the Freerange exhibition at the Truman Brewery only to find it was closed on Tuesdays. I consoled myself by eating a cherry rum lolly and running up the teeniest of tiny bills at Rokit and Beyond Retro respectively. I will always have a place in my heart for this mile square of East London; my affections warmed in the summer I lived in a concrete flat with a cracked roof terrace on Bethnal Green Road aged 18, whilst working in the fashion department at Vogue. Sundays spent wearing platform sandals and drinking Desperados at Ninety feet East. Admiring stolen bicycles. Tipsily shopping for stir-fried vegetables on the walk home along baked pavements.

If you had a chance to see Freerange, do pass on your superior knowledge.

\\\ A Plethora of Shoes at Selfridges ///

Selfridges' Shoe Galleries, London

Photobucket

"Imagine you are in a gallery", says Selfridges' Director of Accessories Sebastian Manes. "From the entrance you see a succession of doorways, and at the end a huge window flooding the space with daylight. Your journey begins at the front, with shoes from the best of the high street. Slowly you begin to travel through different galleries until you reach the end – the couture designer gallery, flanked by Chanel and Louboutin, and a vision of Eden – the new suspended garden at Selfridges. Shoe heaven!"

Opening on the 16th September, Selfridges' shoe venture is quite unlike anything we've ever seen before; 4000 of the most exquistitely designed shoes on display at any one time from a stock of 55,000. COR. BLIMEY. Imelda Marcos eat your heart out. There are six galleries, 11 boutiques and a HANGING GARDEN OF SHOES. Handily colliding with the start of LFW, I will be among the ogling throngs when the Shoe Galleries open to the public in 10 days time.

To celebrate the launch of the Shoe Galleries, Selfridges.com is inviting you to tell your 'Shoe Story' to profess your love for your favourite pair of shoes, and be in with a chance of winning a spiffing new pair, with one winner every week.

\\\ YARD ART ///

Vic Riches : Illustrator

Photobucket

I met charming Vic at the Blogger's Yard sale last weekend where she was displaying some of her most recent sketches. This girl sketches so quickly; blink, and you'll miss her, yet her illustrations have the appearance of hours and hours of laborious study. I was a fan of the Kingston Art student straight away. See more of her work here on her flickr.

Then I had the honour of being sketched myself, wearing the headband I had just bought of Fi from Save Our Shoes' stall, designed by her friend Lisa Margreet.

SHOES & SATAY WITH SUSIE BUBBLE

Photobucket
Susie and her wares
I spent a rare week in London gadding about; something I wish I could do a lot more often. Having missed out on so many fashion sojourns in the city this year, I was looking forward to dropping in on Sunday's yard sale, organised by Susie Bubble and attended by a fashion following of high calibre, local and international. I missed the early-bird scrum, instead opting to join the hangover shift of shoppers, just in time to get one of the last helpings of Tommy's chicken satay.

Bisous to all those I was able to catch up with over the weekend, fash-packers old and new.
I'm moving into my second-year house in Leeds next week (9 girls in our topsy-turvy pink house!), but I'll be back in London with a vengeance for fashion week.

Socks from Tabio and Nadia's 90s boots which I loved. I had a pair myself years ago, and never thought I would regret kissing them goodbye until this day.

The Devil Wears Prada, but the People Wear Plimsolls

Popped down for a weekend in London last week with my boyfriend and of course, spent Sunday on Brick Lane, just like we did all summer.

Vintage booty included a couple of headbands, a purple leather high-waisted mini and a cute blue wicker clutch from the fleamarket.

PS. Next time you are in London, you MUST see Priscilla Queen of the Desert at the Palace theatre, just for the insane costumes alone. Superfantastic.

...Also managed to finally get my hands on a turban-esque headband as you can see. Not perfect, but close enough for now. I'm still searching...
